How to Find Your Carry-Forward Concessional (Unused) Contributions
-
Log In to the ATO Portal
- Access the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) online portal using your myGov account linked to the ATO.
-
Navigate to Superannuation Section
- Once logged in, visit the ‘Super’ tab or section.
-
Find Concessional Contributions
- Look for details about your concessional contributions (these include employer contributions and salary-sacrifice amounts).
-
Check for Carry-Forward (Unused) Amounts
- The portal will show your unused concessional contributions from previous years—these are the amounts you can “carry forward” if you didn’t use your full cap in earlier years.
-
Eligibility & Usage
- To use these unused contributions, your total super balance must generally be under $500,000 at the previous 30 June.
- You can make extra concessional contributions (up to your cap, plus any carried-forward unused cap) and may be able to claim a tax deduction.
-
